Police! Open The Door!

I was woken up this morning by the police shouting down the phone to someone outside the council flats over the road here in Dalston, threatening to break down the door.

After lots of shouting and threatening, with the bloke on the other end of the phone seemingly unable to come back to let them into the property, being at work or something, with the assistance of another policewoman who arrived in a van carrying a battering ram, they got to their destructive business.

After a good couple of minutes trying to smash the door, they stopped, calling for a further two officers. The door battering then continued, with everyone else having a go too.

This time, they were met with a bit more success. Once the door was open, they had a snoop around, seemingly didn’t find whatever they were looking for (or if they did, I missed that bit as I put a pot of coffee on and made some breakfast). One officer drew the short straw and spent the next hour or so guarding the gaping door, waiting for the council to come and block up the door again.

Without knowing the full story, its hard to pass judgement. But it did seem a touch excessive for early on a Saturday morning – I for one was looking forward to  a bank holiday lie in, in peace…
