Carla Bozulich’s Evangelista

Just a very quick post about the Carla Bozulich show at The Maze in Nottingham last night. I first came across her through The Geraldine Fibbers, a country band [I intend to blog about them later in the week, time permitting], but she’s possibly better known for her solo noisier work.

imageIts been a long time since a gig has moved me so much. And cliched as it was, when she opened with her cover of Low’s Pissing, the hairs raised on the back of my neck – rarely for the rest of the gig was I anything less than mesmerised. Shows with a reliance on noise can often leave me feeling cold, struggling to connect with anything on stage. Yet her vocals, her presence, were so intense, every song utterly flew by.

I’ll leave it there, besides suggesting you download the mp3 below and head to see her at one of the upcoming shows:

April 23 London @ Cargo (w/Magik Markers and Old Time Relijun)
April 24 Leeds @ TBA
April 25 Hull @ Adelphi
April 27 London @ The Old Blue
April 29 Lille @ La Malterie
April 30 Paris – Café de la Danse –
May 1 TBA
May 2 Brussels @ TBA
May 3 Namur @ Belgium – Belvedere
May 4 Groningen, Nederlands @Vera
May 5 Hamburg @ Knust
May 6 Berlin @ Café Zapata (Tacheles)
and so on… Check the Evangelista myspace for full tour dates.
