Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy

Friday night saw the first of 3 gigs in Vancouver by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, or Will Oldham as his parents probably know him. Turned out to be possibly one of the best gigs I’ve been to all year. The venue felt special being a modern but rather tasteful church. We sat at the back on raised pews and had a great view, while sipping wine from plastic cups sold at the side. His new album is one I do keep listening to and one he drew from a lot that night. It was odd seeing him live having listened to him on record for, well, ages; as well as seeing him in a film (Old Joy) a few weeks earlier (where he did little but laugh and wander around in the woods).
