Tom Ashton

I’m currently undertaking a Masters of Science degree in Applied Economics at the University of Nottingham in the UK. My primary research interests lie in behavioural microeconomics and experimental microeconomics, the evolution and development of alternatives to the economic orthodoxy (critiques of the neo-classical school and its descendants) and global energy markets (from oil to solar to tidal). I graduate in the winter of 2008.

Environmental economics, specifically where concerning the automotive industry, holds a particular fascination having spent two summers working with Tesla Motors Ltd on their Roadster, an all electric performance sports car. I’m eagerly watching the development of alternatives, with GM’s ambitious Volt having the potential for a huge amount of change in the car world if it’s successfully delivered.

Outside the world of economics and energy, music is what drives me. I present a weekly radio show in Nottingham, focussing on a wide range of independent and alternative music. You can listen online every Monday at 9pm (GMT) at URN.

I enjoy football, with current enjoyment coming more from playing than supporting a persistently under-performing Norwich City FC.
